The History of Copperhead Lodge

The Copperhead Lodge was built in 2006, and officially reopened under new ownership in March 2010. The mountain resort lodge was purchased at auction in October 2009 by hospitality executive Michelle Evans and retired building contractor Anthony Cassulo, from Shalimar, Fla.
"It has been our dream to operate a resort like this. Copperhead is a beautiful setting for a vacation getaway or group gathering," co-owner Michelle Evans said. "We look forward to making this wonderful mountain resort a special place that both locals and visitors feel welcome and are proud to call their home away from home."

Located 80 miles north of Atlanta, Ga. off of Highway 515, near Blairsville, Ga., Copperhead Lodge is a scenic 40-acre resort community in the Appalachian Mountains along a winding creek, near popular road enthusiast trails such as The Dragon's Tail, Cherohala Skyway, Blue Ridge Parkway, and The Gauntlet.

Originally built as a mountain resort getaway for motorcycle enthusiasts, Copperhead has grown and evolved into a resort with something for everyone, no matter how many wheels you travel on. Current features include individual log-style park cabins, on a vacation rental program, that accommodate up to four adults. Each cabin has a unique floor plan and is appointed with luxury linen, hair dryers, and bath amenities. Cabins are equipped with full kitchens, satellite televisions, and small private garages.

The 12,500 square-foot lodge is a beautiful, rustic design and features thoughtfully-appointed guest suites available for daily or weekly vacation rental, as well as bunk-room accommodations for single travelers. All suites are smoke-free, and a handicap accessible lodge suite is available.

Additional resort amenities include the lodge restaurant whose Chef inspired menu of "comfort food with attitude" is unsurpassed in the area. Copperhead also features a relaxing lounge area offering a full menu of beer, wine, and distilled spirits for your thirst-quenching pleasure. The retail shop, stocked with convenient sundries, gift items, and souvenirs, is an interesting place to browse or pick up information on the local area and activities available.

The focal point of Copperhead Lodge is the Grand Hall, a large common area where guests can relax and socialize in comfortable fireside sofas and chairs.

Outdoor amenities include a sweeping veranda known as "The Porch" that wraps around the lodge with several seating areas. This is a hot spot for the mountain cabin resort year round. In the fall and winter guests gather to warm themselves at the outdoor fireplace; in the spring and summer the Porch is the perfect place to take in the stunning vista, while listening to live entertainment. The large, elevated pavilion/amphitheater is perfect for picnics and outdoor concerts. A large swimming pool, and fire-pit area round out the outdoor features.

In addition to enjoying the many amenities and scenic nature that surrounds Copperhead Lodge, guests will also enjoy concerts, movies, live entertainment, special events, and holiday-themed happenings. Road enthusiasts can enjoy guided scenic tours as well as safety and education courses hosted by the resort.
Copperhead Lodge Welcomes Groups
Copperhead's facilities are a unique alternative for small weddings, meetings, board retreats, special events, classes/workshops, and family reunion gatherings.

The Grand Hall seats up to 125 guests, the Porch can comfortably accommodate over 100 guests, while the Boardroom, also located in the Lodge, can accommodate up to 14 guests for small meetings. The restaurant (seating 65) and lounge area (seating 30) allow guests to expand group events into creative venues with ease.

2015 - Property offered for auction

The owners, Anthony Cassulo and Michelle Evans decided to offer the property for auction as a result of the dissolution of their marriage. When no acceptable buyers presented themselves, Anthony & Michelle agreed to a settlement where Michelle would maintain ownership and operational responsibility for Copperhead Lodge.
